Longarm Instruction Class

Hi All!

This Sunday, April 21st, Jen from The Electric Needle will be holding a longarm quilting demonstration for us! You will have a chance to try both the computerized and manual driven methods yourself. The class is being held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and is $20. Thread and practice fabric is included with this. Space is limited to 12 so please sign up using the link below.

The class fee will be paid to Jen the day of the event. You will be sent a ticket after registering for a seat but there is no need to print this. I will keep a list of attendees.

If you are unable to attend this event, please let me know! If there is enough interest, another class may be held.

Have a good week!

This is very similar to the display system at Ashman Library

Sunday Sew Day

The April 14th Sew Day at Millhouse Quilts is canceled. I'm wondering if the fact that these Sunday sew days are limited by shorter store hours is deterring attendees? Does anyone have ideas for locations that would open up the sewing time to more hours on a Sunday? let me know what you think!

Paper Piecing with Kristin!

At our March meeting (last Wed evening), our very own Kristin gave a marvelous paper piecing demo and trunk show!

If you missed it, or would like to relive it, I've got a little synopsis. :)

First, gather your supplies:
- sewing machine
- thread
- fabric of various pieces
- paper for foundation (trace/copy/print pattern onto the paper, thin paper is recommended)
- cutting equipment (rotary cutter, mat, ruler)
- iron and pressing surface
- pins
- seam ripper (useful for pulling paper from tight spaces, not just fixing mistakes)
- tape (for repairing pattern as necessary)

Next, pick out a piece of fabric for the spot labeled 1. Pin it in place. Then choose a piece of fabric for the spot labeled 2. Align fabrics on the pattern and stitch along the line between spots 1 and 2. Be sure to stitch a little ways on either end of the line too. Continue adding pieces until the block is complete.
(More detailed instructions.)

Finally, figure out what you're going to do with all your paper pieced blocks!

Thanks so much for sharing, Kristin!
