Put a Name on It!

Hey Mad Mod Quilters!

A little challenge for the June meeting: Make yourself a fabulous name tag!

Rules

  • The name tag must be sewn by you.
  • The technique and materials used are up to your discretion.
  • Your name must be clearly visible and easy to read.
  • You are welcome to include your business name and/or website if aplicable.
  • There is no size or shape constraint but the name tag must be wearable.

The finished name tags are due for the June 26th meeting. All those who have made a name tag by this time will be entered into a drawing for a wonderful prize!

Need some inspiration? Here is a Pinterest board with some fun ideas. And for some extra flair, here is a tutorial for a scrappy lanyard. Now get to crafting and see you then!

Our First Quilt Show On Display Now!

Installing our First Quilt Exhibit Spring 2013

The Madison Modern Quilt Guild is holding our First Quilt Exhibition featuring incredible work by local artists.

These quilts will be on display May 1st - June 30th, 2013 at the Alicia Ashman Library.
The mission of the Madison Modern Quilt Guild is to create a positive community of modern quilters interested in sharing knowledge of modern quilting techniques, patterns, modern fabrics, and quilt making.  Fellowship is encouraged through regular meetings, social gatherings, workshops, lectures, field-trips, community outreach and education, and other selected activities that encourages modern quilt-making and promotes an appreciation of this specific craft.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Sunday Sew Day

The April 14th Sew Day at Millhouse Quilts is canceled. I'm wondering if the fact that these Sunday sew days are limited by shorter store hours is deterring attendees? Does anyone have ideas for locations that would open up the sewing time to more hours on a Sunday? let me know what you think!

Paper Piecing with Kristin!

At our March meeting (last Wed evening), our very own Kristin gave a marvelous paper piecing demo and trunk show!

If you missed it, or would like to relive it, I've got a little synopsis. :)

First, gather your supplies:
- sewing machine
- thread
- fabric of various pieces
- paper for foundation (trace/copy/print pattern onto the paper, thin paper is recommended)
- cutting equipment (rotary cutter, mat, ruler)
- iron and pressing surface
- pins
- seam ripper (useful for pulling paper from tight spaces, not just fixing mistakes)
- tape (for repairing pattern as necessary)

Next, pick out a piece of fabric for the spot labeled 1. Pin it in place. Then choose a piece of fabric for the spot labeled 2. Align fabrics on the pattern and stitch along the line between spots 1 and 2. Be sure to stitch a little ways on either end of the line too. Continue adding pieces until the block is complete.
(More detailed instructions.)

Finally, figure out what you're going to do with all your paper pieced blocks!

Thanks so much for sharing, Kristin!

MMQG QUILT SHOW COMING UP!

Hello MMQG!

It is time for us to start preparing for our FIRST Mad Mod Quilt Guild - Quilt Show!  This show is open to any of our members who have attended at least one meeting.  This is a big library and there is a lot of space so if you're having trouble deciding on which quilt to show, bring two or three!

What you need to know....

  • The show is May/June 2013 at the Madison Public Library-Alicia Ashman Library
    • Set up April 30th 6:00pm - Take down June 29th time TBD
    • 733 N High Point Rd, Madison, WI
  • Any size quilt is welcome.  (Mini Quilt - King)
  • The theme is "Modern."  How you interpret that is up to you.
  • The library provides rods with hooks so please attach loops to the back of your quilt so we can hang them.
  • All participants must read the Exhibit Contract and Art Display Guidelines.  See Below.
  • Make sure your name is somewhere on the quilt so we know who it belongs too.  If you're not a member on Facebook, we will need contact information as well.
  • We (Mad Mod Quilt Guild/Volunteers) are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged quilts.
  • The exhibit is not insured by the Mad Mod Quilt Guild, Library, or volunteers.

We need your help:

  • PICTURES!  If you've completed the quilt you intend to show we need a few digital images of quilts we're submitting in order for the library to promote our show.  The Library will choose what photos it uses.  Email these by Sunday March 24th.
    • Email madmodquiltguild@gmail.com high quality, well lit photos.
  • A title for our show.  Put your suggestions in the comments please!  Otherwise it will be named:  Mad Mod Quilt Guild:  Modern Quilt Exhibit
  • Volunteers for installation and take down!  Please sign up in person at our March meeting.
    • These people will also be responsible for collecting quilts in person at our April meeting and returning them to their quilters no later than the July monthly meeting.
  • Let us know you're planning to show a quilt by leaving us a comment so we can gauge participation.

Note:  You are welcome to install and take down your quilt yourself if you'd prefer.  Tell us this in person at the March or April Monthly meeting.

If you have questions, please email madmodquiltguild@gmail.com

Thank you in advance to everyone for making this show possible.  I am so excited to see your quilts!!  Lets show Madison what modern quilting is really about!  -Wendy

Please note -
Our installation date has been moved up to Tuesday April 30th at 6:00pm.
