News from our Volunteer Committee!

Community Service comes to MadMod!

Every month new projects will begin....think of it as a merry-go-round of blocks....jump on board when you can!  Not every project will interest you but sooner or later one will.  Do a block,  return it when you can....

The inaugural month was September.....15" squares of black and white buffalo checks were available for the addition of circles...method of choice...applique, inset....etc.

The second option was to make a 15" block with a paper pieced house (pattern of your choice) with blue background.

For the October meeting, please bring close to a yard of your ugliest quilting fabric....from this will grow one of October's projects.

As the blocks return, they will be assembled and quilted for distribution to a number of charities.  Please submit names of worthy organizations if you have any.  If anyone is interested in assisting with assembly etc., there will certainly be opportunities.

MadMod CommServe is just getting off the ground...or jumping on the merry-go-round or what ever you might call it....love to have you on board, too!

October Block Lotto!

Hi All! Sorry for the lateness of this post. Some of you suggested a paper piecing block for this month's lotto. I searched. I tried. I failed.

I couldn't locate a block that fit these criteria: Free, easy enough for beginners, goes with the theme I was looking for, and interesting enough to make me want to complete a few. I tried to make up my own paper piecing pattern but I'm not very proficient at it and the sewing felt awkward. So I started over and found a regular pieced block instead. I will prevail in finding a paper piecing pattern for a future lotto, though!

This month's block is called Shattered Chevrons.

The palette is called Feathered Autumn and is shades of almond, dusty blue-green, chocolate brown, inky blue-black, and a deep golden wheat.

How to play: Make up the block for the month following the pattern and color scheme. Make as many as you want as you will get an entry for every block you make! Bring all your finished blocks to the meeting on October 30th and we will draw a winner. If there are enough blocks to be divided, multiple winners will be drawn. The winner then gets all of those blocks to make a quilt (or similar project)! You can't win again until a completed project is presented. Have fun!

Since our meetings will be shifting towards the earlier half of the month, I will have November's block up soon to allow for more time to complete you blocks!
